| Solar-Powered Home Theater System | | | |
| Written by admin | | Friday, 27 February 2009 | I’m pretty sure that the entire ‘green-campaign’ organized by most American companies are reflecting what our current President Obama is trying to promote – that is Go-Green.
Nevertheless, Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) has created what it seems to be a solar-powered home theater system, which utilizes solar energy from panels mounted on the roof. What’s even more amazing is the fact that these solar panels have the ability to produce 700 watts of power per hour of sunlight – I’m sure that it’s very sufficient to power your electronics.
On the other hand, the hardware consists of 100-inch screen, six SpeakerCraft in-wall speakers, Lutron lighting, Sharp projector, Integra AV receiver and you’ll have a universal remote to play around.
Revolutionary?
| | Charge Batteries with Air | | | |
| Written by admin | | Tuesday, 24 February 2009 | Yes, innovation certainly is a selling point in technology and when it comes to charging your batteries such as your mobile phone or laptop batteries, you can in fact utilize this KFE zinc-air battery charger instead.
The technology is based on hearing aid batteries, whereby all you need to do is to pop open the cap of the battery and let air in. When air touches the zinc, it would generate electricity for your devices.
On the other hand, do take note that the KFE is only good for about 20 charges before it depletes and becomes useless zinc blocks.
Available for purchase next month, it’s selling for a very inexpensive price of just a mere 3,000 yen, which is about $31 bucks!

| | Written by admin | | Tuesday, 24 February 2009 | It seems that the entire world is trying to replicate Apple’s success in their iPhone products. In fact, apart from the iPhone clone, Meizu, which was released just a couple of month back, there’s another cloner which surfaced recently with their GiPhone F5 iPhone clone.
Not sure whether this is a prank by some tech sites, but the phone comes with pretty good specs:
3G handset 3.2-inch multitouch screen Bluetooth Up to 16GB internal memory
On the other hand, you can also play various games on the GiPhone F5 as well. Other details are pretty sketchy right now, so you’ll have to enjoy a photo of the GiPhone F5 as for now:
| | Kindle 2 Got a SIM Card Slot? | | | |
| Written by admin | | Tuesday, 24 February 2009 | Apparently, a tech site dissected the newly launched Kindle 2 – to take a peek of what’s contained inside this miracle device. Surprisingly, the tech team found that there is in fact a SIM-slot-like space on the board of the Kindle 2.
Speculation has it that Amazon might have other plans for the Kindle 2 – probably in the future, you can slap a mobile carrier SIM card inside and browse the internet as well as to make telephone calls?
I believe the Kindle will revolutionize in the near future – just wait and see what they have got to say in a couple of months later?
| | GoGear Ariaz and GoGear Opus | | | |
| Written by admin | | Friday, 20 February 2009 | Portable Media Players or PMPs in short certain is revolutionizing over a short period of time. I remember when the iPod came out to surface in the market and Apple managed to create a huge buzz over it. And what’s even more interesting was the fact that even Microsoft wanted a chunk of the PMP share from Apple, which they failed miserably over the Zune.
Nevertheless, Phillips has introduced their all new GoGear Ariaz and GoGear Opus PMPs into the market and it comes with loads of goodies, all packed into this small wonder.
The storage options available are 4GB, 8GB and 16GB and it comes with the following additional functions:
FM tuner Built-in mic Touchscreen buttons 2.8-inch QVGA display
Well no official word on the release yet but it would be priced in Europe between €79 and €179 or roughly $100 to $230, so I reckon that it’s not really that expensive though.
| | San Francisco City Hall Charge Points | | | |
| Written by admin | | Saturday, 14 February 2009 | Apparently, the San Francisco City Hall is currently endorsing the electric vehicles to be used by their staff. The mayor has in fact installed a couple of ‘charge points’ for electric vehicle in the compound and that anyone who owns one can park at the allocated space and ‘refill’ their electric tank.
Being an electric car user himself, Mayor Gavin Newsom is one of the earliest electric car users by owning the EV1.
Well judging by the looks of this, I’m thinking that this would somehow be in line with President Obama’s move to create a greener country.
If you ask me, San Francisco City Hall deserves a maximum of 3 thumbs up for their efforts.
| | Intel X25-M SSD Performance | | | |
| Written by admin | | Saturday, 07 February 2009 | Apparently, there has been news reports stating that Intel's X25-M SSD suffers degrading performance issues during heavy usage.
Now, we all know that all the new generation SSDs released by companies are much quicker than ordinary rotational drives. But somehow, with news of the degrading performance by Intel's X25-M SSD, I’m sure that this would surely deal a killing blow to Intel.
It seems that researchers have found out the drive’s sector remapping and wear-leveling algorithms to be the culprits. Originally designed to help the drive to be more effective and operate at a faster speed, the algorithms seemed to have an opposite effect.
On the other hand, Intel might just come up with a firmware fix – but there isn’t any word by Intel, just yet.
| | Toshiba Satellite Pro S300 | | | |
| Written by admin | | Sunday, 01 February 2009 | When I first saw Toshiba’s all new Satellite Pro S300 series ready to be released into the market, my first impression was that they pretty much copied Dell’s boxy laptop design. The Satellite Pro S300-series laptops give you a rather metallic feeling and it’s rather squarish as well – something that resembles closely to Dell’s Studio series and XPS series as well.
Of course, there are two S300 series scheduled to be released into the market and the basic specs for the machines are: S300-EZ1511 and S300-EZ1512 sport an Intel Pentium T3400 processor, 1GB memory, and a 120GB hard drive. The S300-EZ1511 is selling for $529 and comes with GMA 4500M graphics and Vista Home Basic while the S300-EZ1512 features a somewhat ‘better’ graphics card, namely the GMA 4500MHD for $50 bucks more. Based on your personal specification and laptop configuration, price would move up a couple of hundred bucks whenever you choose some better specs for your Satellite laptops.
Personally, I’d bump up a couple more gigs for the hard drive as well as increase the memory to a minimum of 3GB – you all should know that Vista is pretty heavy when it comes to resource utilization right?
On the other hand, I believe that the Toshiba Satellite Pro S300 is definitely a great alternative for Dell Studio and XPS laptops (if you don’t like Dell, that is).
Here’s a photo of the laptop:
